By Breaking Belize News Staff: The Case Management Conference (CMC) for Elmer Nah’s high-profile murder trial continued on Tuesday, with Justice Nigel Pilgrim overseeing proceedings. The defense and prosecution addressed key pretrial matters, and a trial date was officially set for June 9 to June 30, 2025. Additionally, a voir dire—a legal proceeding to determine the admissibility of evidence—is scheduled for May 25 to May 26, 2025.

Nah, who appeared virtually alongside his attorneys Peter Taylor and Dr. Lynden Jones, requested the court’s assistance in securing an in-person meeting with his lawyer. He expressed difficulty in reaching Taylor due to prison restrictions. In response, Justice Pilgrim ordered that Nah be transported to Belize City on April 14, 2025, to meet with his defense team.

The judge also directed both parties to submit additional CMC forms by April 11, 2025, and ordered an inspection of a key piece of evidence—the headlights—by the same date.

Nah, a former police officer, is facing multiple charges related to a violent attack in Belmopan on December 31, 2022. He stands accused of the murders of brothers John and David Ramnarace, the attempted murder of Vivian Ramnarace—who later succumbed to her injuries on January 15, 2023—and the attempted murder of Yemi Alberto.

His trial will proceed under two separate indictments. The first, which includes three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, will be heard by a judge alone. The second indictment, concerning charges of using deadly means of harm and wounding, will be tried before a judge and a nine-member jury.

Nah previously pleaded not guilty to all charges. His legal team changed in February 2025, when he dismissed prominent attorney Godfrey Smith and replaced him with Taylor and Jones.

As the trial date approaches, the court will continue to address preliminary matters, ensuring that the case moves forward efficiently.
