By Aaron Humes: Stanley Morris Flowers, 36, is accused of involvement in a violent incident on Sunday night that escalated into a police pursuit and subsequent arrest.
In court this morning, Flowers was arraigned on eight charges, including attempted murder, aggravated assault, and the unlawful possession of a firearm. He pleaded not guilty to the charges, was denied bail and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison, with his next court date scheduled for June 2.
According to reports, shortly after midnight, Corporal Manuel Chub, 42, and Police Constable Sebastian Sho responded to complaints about a man wielding a firearm outside the club. In a harrowing turn of events, Flowers, who was identified to be holding a pistol, allegedly opened fire on Chub, injuring him with multiple gunshots. As he attempted to flee the scene on a motorcycle, Flowers engaged in a shootout with the officers, damaging two police vehicles in the process.
After a swift police response, Flowers was apprehended when he was inadvertently knocked down by a police vehicle while attempting to escape. He was discovered with a silver and black 9 mm pistol, which he reportedly dropped during the chase. Following the incident, Flowers was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) for treatment of injuries sustained during his capture.
