69-year-old man charged with sexual assault following attack on 8-year-old child in Caye Caulker

By Aaron Humes: Jacob Emmanuel Cabral, 69, a Belizean laborer residing on Crocodile Street in Caye Caulker, has been formally charged with four counts of sexual assault.

A woman accompanied by her eight-year-old daughter visited the Caye Caulker Police Station at approximately 4:21 PM on Thursday to report an act of sexual assault that took place earlier that day.

According to the mother’s account, around 3:45 PM, while walking home from school, the girl was approached by a man described as an elderly, light-skinned individual with a slim build, wearing a hat. The man allegedly instructed the child to follow him to a nearby bushy area known as Date Lane. Once there, the man reportedly proceeded to inappropriately touch the young girl under her skirt.

Police were told that the man had committed similar acts against her daughter on three previous occasions. Following an investigation, Cabral was arrested and charged.
