By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 28-year-old deliveryman was remanded to prison on Thursday after leading police on a dramatic high-speed chase through Belize City while allegedly carrying a loaded firearm.
Alexander Andrew Leslie, a resident of #11 Mopan Street and described as a deliveryman or “run man,” appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #6, where he was read two criminal charges: one count of keeping an unlicensed firearm and one count of keeping unlicensed ammunition.
According to police, on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, Leslie was spotted around 10:50 p.m. on a black and red motorcycle along Alicia Street. Officers conducting mobile patrols observed Leslie and another man acting suspiciously. When police signaled them to stop, the motorcycle sped off, leading officers on a lengthy pursuit through several streets, including Mahogany Street, Administration Drive, and Lacroix Boulevard.
During the chase, Leslie allegedly tossed a black 9mm pistol into a drain on Beatrice Smith Street. Police later recovered the weapon, which contained a magazine loaded with 15 live rounds—12 brass Luger brand and 3 brass 9mm rounds.
The pursuit ended when the suspects crashed near Gladden Street and attempted to flee on foot. Leslie was eventually apprehended with assistance from the GI3 unit. Police linked him to the abandoned motorcycle through an insurance disk and VIN number.
In court, Leslie pleaded not guilty to both charges. However, due to the serious nature of the offenses under Section 16 of the Crime Control and Criminal Justice Act, bail was denied. He has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison until his next court appearance scheduled for June 17, 2025.
