By Aaron Humes: The Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA) and Belize Airport Concession Company (BACC) say they were alerted early this morning to a hijacking involving a Tropic Air flight. A Cessna Caravan, en route from Corozal to San Pedro with 14 passengers and 2 crew members, encountered a security crisis beginning around 8:30.

In response, emergency protocols were activated, and a full-scale emergency was declared as all relevant agencies mobilized to address the situation. Witnesses reported that the aircraft displayed erratic flight patterns as it circled above the airport, leading to concerns about the safety of those onboard.

After nearly two hours of tense uncertainty, the aircraft managed to land safely at approximately 10:12 am. Emergency personnel promptly responded, securing the area and ensuring that all passengers were accounted for. While no fatalities occurred among the passengers, various injuries were reported, necessitating immediate medical attention.

Injured passengers were swiftly transported to a local hospital for treatment after being evaluated on-site. Other passengers are currently being interviewed by authorities to gather more information about the hijacking and the events leading up to the emergency landing.

The hijacker is confirmed deceased. Authorities are expected to release additional information as the investigation unfolds.

Further updates will be provided as they become available.
