By Horace Palacio: Deon Patrick Ogaldez, known to the world as Concego, has died following a motorcycle accident that left him hospitalized in critical condition. Belizeans from all walks of life are now mourning the loss of one of the country’s most vibrant and beloved musical voices.

Concego was not just a Punta Rock artist—he was a cultural force. His performances energized crowds, and his music became the soundtrack of celebrations across Belize. From “Namule” to countless other dance hits, he built a legacy that now lives on in the hearts of fans nationwide.

Family members announced his death in a public statement shared on social media, saying, “It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, friend and musician.” The statement asked for prayers and privacy as the family grieves and makes preparations for his funeral.

The accident that claimed Concego’s life remains under investigation by authorities. Details surrounding the crash have not yet been officially released.

As Belize mourns his passing, many are calling for a national day of remembrance to honor his contribution to Garifuna culture and Belizean music. Concego’s presence may be gone, but his spirit continues to echo through the rhythms he left behind.

May his soul rest in peace. Belize will never forget his rhythm, his spirit, or his voice.
