Belize Council of Churches expresses condolences on the passing of Pope Francis

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Council of Churches has offered its condolences to the Roman Catholic faithful following the passing of Pope Francis, recognizing his leadership, compassion, and commitment to justice throughout his 12 years as pontiff.

In an official statement, Rt Rev Philip Wright, M.A., OBE, President of the Belize Council of Churches, described Pope Francis as the “people’s Pope”, emphasizing his outreach to the poor, marginalized, and excluded.

“We pray that God’s Holy Spirit provides comfort and strength during this time of bereavement,” the statement read, affirming the Pope’s legacy of humility, unity, and service.

The Council highlighted Pope Francis’ efforts to strengthen ecumenical and interfaith dialogue, acknowledging his contributions to global collaboration among religious communities. His advocacy for human dignity, freedom, and the right to life was also praised, along with his dedication to reconciliation and peace among nations.

As the Christian world mourns his passing, the Council concluded with a heartfelt prayer: “May Light Perpetual shine on him and may he rest in peace. May his memory be a blessing to us all.”
