Belize City woman charged for bullying former co-worker online

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 49-year-old Belize City woman is out on bail after being charged under the Cybercrime Act for allegedly sending repeated obscene and threatening messages to a former co-worker.

Armida Adela Gonzalez, a self-employed resident of a West Street address, appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Ludlow Black in Court #1 on Wednesday evening, where she was read a single charge of using a computer system to repeatedly transmit data that is obscene and vulgar—an offense under the Cybercrime Act.

The charge stems from an incident on March 13, 2025, in which Gonzalez allegedly sent a series of threatening and explicit messages to a former co-worker. The messages, filled with profanities and threats of physical harm, were reportedly sent via a digital platform with the intent to harass.

In court, Gonzalez pleaded not guilty to the charge. While there was no objection to bail, the prosecutor requested conditions be imposed to protect the virtual complainant. Magistrate Black granted bail in the sum of $500 with one surety and ordered Gonzalez to stay at least 100 yards away from the complainant and to refrain from any form of contact.

Gonzalez told the court she and the woman who made the report previously worked together but are no longer employed at the same establishment.

She is due back in court on June 12, 2025, as the case continues.
