62-year-old car washer fined $150 for crack pipe

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 62-year-old car washer from Taylor’s Alley is facing a $155 debt to the court after pleading guilty to possession of a crack pipe.

Henry Lionel Smart Jr. appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Ludlow Black in Court #1 on Friday, where he admitted to possessing a 3.5-inch silver pipe used for smoking crack cocaine. Despite having a previous conviction for the same offense, Smart Jr. was given a non-custodial sentence and fined.

Police arrested Smart Jr. during a bust on April 23, 2025, in Taylor’s Alley, an area known for drug activity.

Magistrate Black fined him $150 plus a $5 court cost, giving him until May 30, 2025, to pay. Failure to do so will result in two weeks’ imprisonment.
