By Aaron Humes: In a twist on the usual ‘dog bites man’ story, or even the unusual ‘man bites dog,’ a pig is apparently to blame for the death of Gales Point village resident Anton Andrewin on Sunday.
Police report that Andrewin chased after a pig that was damaging his crops and eating his plants, but was cornered and gored by the pig’s tusk, slicing through his leg and severing an artery. He was rushed to the Southern Regional Hospital in Dangriga but was pronounced dead on arrival, having lost so much blood.
ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division, indicated that the pig somehow got loose and went into Andrewin’s property, leading to the fatal attack. The owner, however, is reportedly in prison leaving the pig to go wild.
The pig has since been put down by members of the community.
