Belize congratulates Mark Carney on becoming Canada’s new prime minister

In an official statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Belize expressed its optimism for continued cooperation and strengthened diplomatic ties under Carney’s leadership. The Government noted that the longstanding relationship between Belize and Canada has been built on mutual respect, development partnerships, and a shared commitment to democratic values.

“Belize anticipates the further strengthening of the longstanding ties of friendship and cooperation between our two nations under his leadership,” the Ministry stated.

Canada has long been a key development partner for Belize, contributing to education, governance, environmental initiatives, and trade. Officials in Belmopan say they look forward to engaging with the Carney administration on matters of mutual interest, including climate resilience, trade, and foreign policy.

Mark Carney, an economist and former Governor of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, brings to office a reputation for financial expertise and global cooperation. His election has been widely viewed as a signal of Canada’s continued engagement with global partners, especially in areas of sustainable development and economic equity.
