By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Last week, 15 coaches from across the country completed the first phase of the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) D Diploma Coaching Workshop, a program aimed at developing coaching knowledge and skills for grassroots football.
The workshop provided participants with an introduction to key coaching principles, player development strategies, and methods for fostering discipline and teamwork. Through a mix of theoretical lessons and practical sessions, the program sought to enhance coaching standards and improve structured football education in Belize.
The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen local coaching capacity, particularly at the developmental level. In addition to the D Diploma Course, the FFB also offers B and C level coaching certifications, allowing coaches to continue their education and advance their qualifications. With proper guidance and structured programs, the hope is that players across the country will have increased access to mentors who can refine their skills and support their growth in the sport.
As the program moves forward, coaches are expected to continue their training through subsequent phases, working toward certification and deeper technical knowledge. Whether these efforts translate into long-term improvements in Belizean football remains to be seen, but the completion of this first phase sets the stage for further engagement in coaching education.
