International News: Guyana imposes curfew after autopsy conclude drowning in death of 11-year-old girl

By Zoila Palma: The Government of Guyana has imposed a nationwide curfew from 12:30 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. amid rising unrest following the death of 11-year-old Adrianna Young, Jamaican Observer reports.

The curfew may be extended, potentially starting as early as 10:00 p.m., according to Home Affairs Minister Robeson Benn.

The unrest erupted after the girl’s body was found in a hotel pool last week. An autopsy confirmed she died from drowning.

Despite assurances of a full investigation, including the involvement of foreign forensic experts, public outrage has led to looting, fires, and road blockages in several areas.

The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce condemned the violence, urging calm and respect for public safety. Authorities are working to restore order, with police and fire services clearing debris from major roads.

Separately, the Ministry of Education denounced an acid attack on students and teachers at Chateau Margot Primary School, vowing a full investigation and stricter safety measures in schools.
