By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belizean referee instructor Abner Alvarez represented the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) at the FIFA Regional Course for Referee Instructors in San José, Costa Rica, from April 22–26, 2025. The seminar, organized by FIFA’s Refereeing Department, aimed to enhance referee instruction across the region through official FIFA materials and teaching methods.
The FFB said Alvarez joined instructors from various countries, including Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, Panama, and Puerto Rico. The programme featured both theoretical and practical sessions led by experienced FIFA technical instructors.
According to the FFB, the course focused on strengthening regional referee instruction, improving knowledge of FIFA standards, and supporting instructors in developing officiating within their national systems. It also promoted collaboration among member associations to elevate the overall refereeing landscape.
The FFB stated that Alvarez’s participation is a notable achievement for Belizean football, highlighting the nation’s expanding role in international officiating and its commitment to improving referee standards.
The FFB congratulated Alvarez for his efforts in strengthening refereeing networks in Belize.
