By Aaron Humes: Following the explosive guest appearance of Moses “Shyne” Barrow on United Democratic Party-owned radio station WAVE Radio’s morning program “Fus Ting da Mawnin” in which he engaged with co-host Alfonso Noble over the High Court decision issued on Wednesday in his case against Leader of the Opposition Tracey Taegar-Panton, executives of the party announced the program would be suspended.
Taegar-Panton reacted later on Thursday to call for more dialogue on that decision, but agreed that the infighting has to stop: “… that requires further discussion with other members of the leadership team, before we can all be in agreement. What we do agree on is that the circus has come to an end, and this appetite for sensationalism and the salaciousness that the media seems to gravitate to will not be entertained. We have to get our house in order. We have to do that in the shortest amount of time, because we are in opposition and we have a duty, and we have a sacred responsibility to the people in this country to hold the administration to account and to hold ourselves to account. And that is what we intend to do.”
First Deputy Leader Hugo Patt ordered Thursday’s show ended early after Noble and Barrow’s war of words on air. Thereafter Acting Chairman Alberto August announced the decision in a memo addressed on Thursday to hosts Noble and Joe Bradley. August’s memo highlighted the detrimental impact of public disputes aired on the morning show, which has become a platform for division among party members. “This public back-and-forth airing of the Party’s challenges… cannot and will not be allowed to continue as it creates wounds that will become uncurable,” he stated. The suspension aims to minimize distractions and allow party leaders to focus on the vital task of reunification.
“The task to reunite our Party is not an easy one,” August acknowledged, underscoring the urgency of the situation. “You will be advised when the situation changes as the Party emerges united to tackle the real opponents of the nation,” he added. Though Noble told Channel 7 News he would show up as usual on Friday, the program did not air.
