By Horace Palacio: The United Women’s Group (UWG), the women’s arm of the People’s United Party, has issued a press release marking what it calls a “new era of women-led leadership” in Belize. Released on May 10, 2025, the statement highlights the growing presence of women in the highest echelons of national governance and applauds the shift toward greater inclusion and gender equity.
The UWG press release recognizes several women currently serving in senior public roles, including Her Excellency Governor General Dame Froyla Tzalam, House Speaker Valerie Woods, Senate President Carolyn Trench Sandiford, and Clerk of the National Assembly Mrs. Clarita Pech. It also praises female parliamentarians such as Thea Garcia Ramirez, Dolores Balderamos Garcia, Rozel Arana, and Brittney Galvez
According to the release, this transformation would not be possible without the vision of Prime Minister John Briceño, whose appointments of capable women to CEO positions across government ministries are helping to redefine leadership. Notable mentions include Nicole Usher Solano in Tourism, Dian Maheia in Education, and Beverly Wade in Blue Economy.
UWG also gave special recognition to Brittney Galvez, recently appointed as a Government Senator and Assistant Secretary of the UWG National Executive. Her rise reflects a growing trend of young women stepping into national leadership and public service roles.
