By Breaking Belize News Staff: With a bold target of 75% renewable energy by 2030, Belize is embarking on a sweeping transformation of its energy sector. The 2025/26 budget allocates funding for several major clean energy initiatives supported by international partners.

Key projects include:

  • A $154 million utility-scale solar plant (60MW) funded by the Saudi Development Fund.
  • The Belize Reliant and Resilient Energy System Project, a $116.8 million World Bank program to modernize the national grid and integrate battery storage across four districts.
  • A PPP Solar Project worth up to $160 million, with IFC helping select a private-sector developer.
  • Additional funds from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) for grid modernization and renewable procurement.

“These projects will slash energy import costs, stabilize the grid, and create export opportunities,” Briceño said, envisioning a day when Belize becomes a net exporter of electricity to the region.
