By Breaking Belize News Staff: Jeffrey Pott, a 35-year-old construction worker already serving prison time for unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, has been officially committed to stand trial at the June 2025 session of the High Court for the murder of Dion Martin Bodden, a 50-year-old Belize City resident.
Pott, who resides at #10 Victoria Street, was the subject of a paper committal this morning before a Senior Magistrate in Court #6. He is accused of gunning down Bodden, a former affiliate of the Kelly Street Crips, in Pitts Alley during the early hours of June 22, 2024.
Police investigations revealed that Bodden was ambushed and shot multiple times by an unknown gunman who emerged from New Road. He was found lying on the ground in a green camouflage jacket and black shorts, with apparent gunshot injuries. He was pronounced dead at the KHMH at 4:15 a.m.
Key evidence presented included video footage from a police camera showing a man leaving Pott’s residence on a bicycle shortly before the shooting and returning minutes later. Officers from Precinct 3 identified the man in the footage as Jeffrey Pott. An eyewitness to the shooting also confirmed Pott’s identity after viewing the video.
The prosecution submitted more than ten witness statements, several documentary exhibits, and an arrest warrant. Pott declined to call any alibi witnesses for his defense.
Pott was convicted in April 2025 of three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl and sentenced by Justice Nigel Pilgrim to over 20 years in prison. He is also awaiting trial for a separate rape charge.
Despite already being incarcerated, Pott will appear before a judge in the June 10, 2025 session of the High Court, where he will be formally arraigned for Bodden’s murder.
