International News: Trump offers to join Ukraine-Russia peace talks in Turkey

By Zoila Palma: Today, U.S. President Donald Trump said that he is considering joining potential Ukraine-Russia peace talks in Istanbul this week, as European nations push for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, Reuters report.

“I’ve got so many meetings, but I was thinking about actually flying over there,” Trump told reporters before departing for a Middle East trip.

“There’s a possibility of it… but we’ve got to get it done. Don’t underestimate Thursday in Turkey.”

His comments came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said he would travel to Istanbul and was ready to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin.

On X, Zelenskiy responded to Trump’s offer, saying: “All of us in Ukraine would appreciate it if President Trump could be there… It’s the right idea.”

Despite the European ceasefire proposal, Ukraine reported ongoing Russian attacks, including 69 front-line clashes and an overnight drone assault involving more than 100 drones.

Germany warned new sanctions would be prepared if Russia did not halt hostilities by Monday’s end. The Kremlin has not yet responded to calls for talks or a truce.
