By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Napoles FC are heading to the Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) Final after edging defending champions Jewel Fury FC on an away goal in an intense semifinal series.

The two-leg battle ended in a 2-2 aggregate draw, with Napoles winning the first leg 1-0 last week. But on Saturday, May 10, at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, Jewel Fury fought back with a 2-1 victory. Despite the loss, Napoles’ lone away goal—scored by Jinelle Pott—proved decisive, giving them the advantage and the ticket to the championship match.

The battle was intense from the start. Jewel Fury, determined to overturn their first-leg deficit, came out firing, netting twice to take the lead. But Napoles remained composed, knowing that one goal would be enough to tilt the scales in their favor. When Pott found the back of the net, the Napoles squad erupted in celebration, fully aware that they had just punched their ticket to the final.

While Pott’s goal secured the team’s advancement, it was defender Stephanie Barrientos who stood as the backbone of Napoles’ outstanding performance. In a massive defensive effort, Barrientos held firm, thwarting Jewel Fury’s attacks throughout the match. Her standout moment came with a dramatic goal-line save, ensuring Napoles maintained their critical advantage.

Led by captain Roshany Narváez, who scored the winning goal in the first leg, Napoles now turn their attention to the ultimate test: facing Sagitun GIRLZ, who made a resounding statement in their semifinal clash by crushing Cayo Dreamers with a staggering 24-0 aggregate victory (11-0 in the first leg and 13-0 in the second).

With the championship on the line, Napoles will have to summon all their resilience and tactical discipline to compete against the high-powered Sagitun GIRLZ attack. Will their defensive grit be enough to counter the offensive juggernaut awaiting them in the final?

The stage is set for the PWLB championship matches which promise fireworks. As the lower-ranked team in the regular season—finishing third while Sagitun GIRLZ claimed the number one spot—Napoles will host the first leg of the final at home.
