By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize City Thunderbolts made a commanding statement in the inaugural game of the Belize Premier Basketball League (BPBL), defeating the EZ Investments Dangriga Dream Ballers 101-81 on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the Belize City Civic Center.

Strong Start for the Thunderbolts

In a game that tipped off the BPBL era, the Thunderbolts displayed their offensive firepower and defensive resilience, overpowering the Dream Ballers with impressive shooting.

Tyrone Hall led charge, recording a double-double, tallying 28 points and 11 rebounds, while adding 2 assists and 2 steals to his dominant performance.

Victor Evans produced a double-double, converting 18 points, 17 rebounds, and 9 assists. Matthew Young also stood out, scoring 14 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, and securing 2 steals.

Eyan Rene provided additional firepower with 15 points, shooting an efficient 58.3% from the field, while Glency Lopez contributed 14 points, 5 assists, and 2 steals, proving instrumental in the Thunderbolts’ balanced offensive attack.

Dream Ballers Struggle to Keep Up

The Dream Ballers fought hard, with Daniel Conorque leading their offense, scoring 24 points with 6 three-pointers. Deshawn Brackett delivered an all-around effort with 19 points and 10 rebounds, but the team’s 35.3% field goal percentage and 31.6% from beyond the arc left them struggling to match the Thunderbolts’ efficient shooting.

Despite good runs, Dangriga’s defense failed to contain Belize City’s high-paced offense, allowing the Thunderbolts to pull away decisively.
