By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Following Belize City Thunderbolts’ 101-81 win over EZ Investments Dangriga Dream Ballers on Friday night, the Belize Premier Basketball League (BPBL) continues Saturday night with a historic game in Corozal.
After 13 years without top-tier basketball, the Corozal Cerros Suns finally bring elite competition back to the northern district, facing off against the San Pedro Tiger Sharks at Andres Campos Civic Center at 8:00 p.m. This long-awaited return has sparked excitement among local fans eager to see their team take on one of the most experienced squads in Belizean basketball.
The Cerros Suns enter the BPBL determined to establish themselves as a force in the league, carrying the expectations of a community hungry for the sport’s revival. Meanwhile, the Tiger Sharks aim to begin their campaign on a winning note, using their experience to spoil Corozal’s big night.
This game is more than just a matchup—it’s a celebration of the return of high-level basketball to Corozal after more than a decade. The BPBL hopes that return to Belize’s northernmost town will send fans in droves to the Andres Campos Civic Center.
Elsewhere in BPBL action, the Western Ballaz will host the Belmopan Capital City Kings in Cayo at 8:00 pm.
