By Aaron Humes: Authorities have detained several individuals as part of an ongoing investigation into a potential murder case in Belmopan, following the discovery of a decomposed body along the George Price Boulevard. The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed, but Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Hilberto Romero has indicated that they suspect it could belong missing person, Moises Garbutt.
In a press briefing, ACP Romero stated that further investigation, including a DNA test, will be necessary to officially identify the body. He explained that Garbutt was reported missing after attending a birthday party in Roaring Creek, from which he reportedly left in an SUV with three individuals.
“We suspect it is the missing person, Moises Garbutt. We have to conduct DNA tests to confirm that since the body is decomposed,” Romero said. “Information is that he was at the birthday party with several other persons. Thereafter, he left in an SUV with three persons, and therefore, he was reported missing. Investigation into this report continues.”
When questioned about potential suspects, ACP Romero indicated that several individuals are being sought for questioning, and some are currently incarcerated for interviews. However, the police have yet to determine if these individuals are connected to previous threats made against Garbutt.
Reporters pressed for details on a possible motive and cause of death, but ACP Romero clarified that investigations are still ongoing. “At this time, we do not have a motive,” he said. “A post-mortem has to be conducted to determine the cause of death.”
