Patrick Faber calls expulsion illegal, wants back in UDP

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Lead Opposition Senator Patrick Faber is calling on the United Democratic Party to immediately reverse what he describes as an unlawful expulsion from the party, citing a recent Supreme Court ruling as legal precedent. In a letter dated May 17, 2025, Faber addressed UDP Vice Chairman Alberto August, stating that his September 2024 expulsion—along with those of John Saldivar and Beverly Williams—was unconstitutional and violated the party’s own rules.

Faber’s letter references the ruling in Claim No. 661 of 2024, where the High Court ruled that the expulsion of Tracy Panton was executed without due process and in breach of Articles 11(h)(ii) through (vii) of the UDP Constitution. The judgment determined that the Central Executive Committee acted beyond its authority by bypassing the Ethics and Integrity Committee, the only body authorized to expel members.

“The facts of my expulsion…are identical in nature and process to that of Hon. Panton,” Faber wrote, adding that “it is therefore indisputable that these expulsions were equally unlawful and must be reversed without delay.”

Faber urged the Central Executive Committee to prioritize the matter in its upcoming meeting, calling on the party to uphold its constitutional and moral obligations. He concluded with three demands: that his expulsion be declared null and void, that his full membership rights be reinstated, and that all future disciplinary actions strictly follow constitutional procedures.

Faber’s letter may reignite tensions within the UDP as the party grapples with a growing internal debate over leadership, governance, and accountability.
