By Breaking Belize News Staff: The United Democratic Party (UDP) appears to be entering a new era of reconciliation and restructuring. In a key meeting held on Sunday, May 18, 2025, the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) announced a clear framework for the possible reinstatement of expelled members and outlined plans for internal elections and constitutional reform.
The meeting produced a unanimous vote in favor of allowing expelled members to apply for reinstatement—if they meet specific conditions laid out in Article 11(2)(h)(5) of the UDP Constitution. Those conditions include a one-year expulsion period, an application to the Ethics and Integrity Committee, a public apology, and a written pledge to uphold party principles.
While no names were mentioned in the official statement, the decision is widely viewed as opening the door for figures like Patrick Faber, John Saldivar, and others to potentially return to the fold—provided they meet the required criteria.
The UDP also confirmed that all 31 constituencies will begin holding conventions in July, paving the way for an October National Convention in accordance with the party’s constitution. The current elected leadership will remain in place until then, signaling a temporary pause on leadership shakeups.
The CEC closed with a call for unity and encouraged all party members to participate in the rebuilding process.
