UDP to Faber: No shortcuts—Follow the rules if you want back in

By Breaking Belize News Staff: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has responded to Senator Patrick Faber’s demand for reinstatement with a firm message: the door to return is not closed, but it’s not automatic either. In a letter signed by Acting Chairman Alberto August, the party acknowledged receipt of Faber’s letter but stressed that he must follow the procedures laid out in the UDP Constitution if he seeks readmission.

Faber, who was expelled from the party in 2024, had argued that a recent High Court ruling regarding Tracy Panton’s expulsion—deemed unconstitutional—sets the legal foundation for his reinstatement. But the UDP leadership disagrees. August pointed out that each case is judged on its own merits, and that the events surrounding Faber’s expulsion differ in sequence and context from Panton’s.

Citing Justice Tawanda Hondora’s ruling, August highlighted that while the court found flaws in the process of Panton’s expulsion, it refrained from ordering her reinstatement, noting that such matters are best left to the party—not the judiciary.

As such, Faber has been told he must submit himself to the process outlined in Article 11 h (4) and (5) of the party’s Constitution, which includes a review by the Ethics Committee and the issuance of an apology with a formal pledge to uphold party rules.

While the UDP has left the door open for his return, it’s clear Faber will have to humble himself and work through internal mechanisms—no court ruling will bypass that.
