By Zoila Palma: A Mexican security consultant who previously worked with the U.S. State Department was killed in a suspected cartel ambush Friday night at a restaurant in Guadalajara.
César Guzman, 50, was dining with two other instructors after leading a police training course when gunmen opened fire, killing him and Carlos Amador, a former Hidalgo security official. A third man, Pablo Cajigal, remains in critical condition.
The men had recently taught counter-narcotics courses for the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement.
The U.S. Consulate expressed condolences but confirmed they were not on assignment at the time of the attack. Local media reported the assailants fled in a red Nissan.
