By Rubén Morales Iglesias: As the dust settles on a thrilling OWFA 1st Division Closing Championship, the Orange Walk Football Association has recognized the outstanding players who shone throughout the 2024-2025 season. Leading the honours went to Axel Alamilla, the driving force behind Yo Creek United’s successful title defense, earning him the coveted Most Valuable Player award.
Alamilla was both the Best Forward and Top Goalscorer in the Opening Championship.
Yo Creek United’s march to a second consecutive OWFA title was anything but easy. Missing three key defenders due to suspension, the champions fought against adversity, rallying from a 1-0 deficit in the final against San Jose Pumas. As the match neared its conclusion, Leonardo Canul struck a dramatic equalizer in the 85th minute, sending the game to penalties. In the shootout, Yo Creek United held their composure, securing a 4-3 victory, officially claiming back-to-back championships.
Through it all, Alamilla’s leadership and presence anchored Yo Creek United, earning him the MVP honours for his stellar performances throughout the tournament.
