By Aaron Humes: A significant drug trafficking investigation is unfolding following a recent bust at the Customs and Excise Department, with U.S. authorities now joining local law enforcement in probing the case. Initial reports indicated that Customs officers seized only 15 pounds of cannabis, but further investigations reveal that the actual value of the seized drugs may total nearly one million dollars.

The investigation commenced when a suspicious package, falsely labeled as a shipment of Bath and Body Works products, arrived at the Port of Belize. Upon inspection, customs officers—two of whom are siblings—discovered that the contents of the package were illicit narcotics. This startling finding led to the immediate detention of the officers for questioning by police.

As the investigation progresses, authorities have secured court approval to search the personal cellphones of the detained customs officers. Reports have surfaced suggesting that one of the officers may have been taken out of the country by U.S. authorities, although these claims remain to be verified.

The collaboration between U.S. and Belizean law enforcement underscores the international dimensions of drug smuggling operations, with strong suspicions that the seized substances are linked to a larger drug smuggling ring originating from the United States.

The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the operation and bring those responsible to justice. Further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
