By Aaron Humes: The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) mourns the passing of Brian Castillo, a dedicated Education Officer whose commitment to educational excellence significantly impacted the Belizean community. Castillo’s sudden death on Monday has left a void in both the ministry and in the hearts of those who worked alongside him.

Castillo served the government and people of Belize for many years, making his mark at Edward P. Yorke High School before taking on a pivotal role in the Ministry of Education. Known for his professionalism and genuine passion for nurturing students’ learning and development, he made indelible contributions that shaped the lives of countless young Belizeans.

Tributes have poured in from colleagues and community members, who remembered Castillo as a kind-hearted individual with a humble demeanor. His unwavering support for both students and fellow educators earned him deep respect and admiration within the educational community.

The MoEST expressed its sorrow in a statement, highlighting his legacy of kindness and dedication. “His lasting and positive impression on students, colleagues, and community members will be remembered fondly,” the statement read.

Oscar Requeña, Minister of Education, along with Ramon Cervantes, Minister of State, extended their condolences to Castillo’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. “Our heartfelt sympathies go out to those affected by this loss. Castillo’s legacy will live on through all the lives he touched,” the Ministry stated.

Castillo died in a golf cart accident in San Pedro Town, which continues to be investigated by police.
