International News: United Kingdom halts Trade talks with Israel over Gaza offensive

By Zoila Palma: The United Kingdom (U.K.) has suspended free trade negotiations with Israel and summoned the Israeli ambassador amid growing alarm over Israel’s renewed military offensive in Gaza, BBC reports.

Foreign Secretary David Lammy called the situation “intolerable” and accused the Netanyahu government of worsening a humanitarian crisis by restricting aid.

“The conduct of the war in Gaza is damaging our relationship with your government,” Lammy said, warning of further action if aid restrictions continue.

The UK also announced sanctions on three individuals and four entities linked to settler violence in the West Bank. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the UK was “horrified by the escalation.”

The UN reports that just a handful of aid trucks have entered Gaza after an 11-week blockade, with 14,000 babies at risk if aid doesn’t increase. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu insisted the war could end if Hamas surrenders.

Israel’s foreign ministry dismissed the UK’s move, calling it politically motivated and reaffirmed its stance: “External pressure will not divert Israel from defending itself.”
