By Breaking Belize News Staff: An American national is behind bars after pleading guilty to the importation of marijuana into Belize.
Cameron David Rose, 31, a sales agent from California, was fined $1,500 Belize dollars (approximately $750 USD) on Monday morning in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court for importing 47 grams of cannabis through the Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA) last Friday, May 23, 2025.
Rose, who arrived on Alaska Airlines Flight #1334 from Los Angeles, was stopped by a Customs Officer around 6:45 p.m. after a vacuum-sealed plastic bag was found in his luggage. The matter was referred to the Anti-Narcotics Unit, and a search was conducted which led to the discovery of marijuana concealed inside a brown leather handbag.
Upon questioning, Rose immediately admitted the substance was cannabis. He was formally charged with importation of a controlled drug and appeared unrepresented before a magistrate in Court #1, where he pleaded guilty.
Although fined $1,500 plus $5 in court costs and ordered to pay the amount forthwith, Rose was unable to pay and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison to serve a default sentence of three months imprisonment, unless he pays the fine sooner.
