By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Elite Basketball League (BEBL) gears up for another exciting weekend of action, kicking off with a Friday night battle between the Capital City Kings (1-3) and the EZ Investments Griga Dream Ballers (1-2) at UB Gymnasium in Belmopan at 9:00 pm.
Both teams find themselves needing a win to stay in the playoff race. The Kings, currently sitting in sixth place with just one victory in four games, are hoping to use their home-court advantage to secure their second win and climb out of the lower standings. Meanwhile, the Dream Ballers, positioned fifth with a 1-2 record, are determined to even their season tally before heading into a tough Sunday matchup against the PG Panthers.
Standing at the top of the league are the San Pedro Tiger Sharks (4-0), who remain undefeated. Hot on their heels are the Cayo Western Ballaz (2-1) and PG Panthers (2-1), each sitting 1.5 games behind. The Belize City Thunderbolts (2-3) hold fourth place, but their three-game losing streak has put them in a precarious position.
For the Kings and Dream Ballers, a win on Friday could be the spark they need to build momentum in the coming weeks. Expect an intense game as both teams push to keep their playoff hopes alive.
This weekend’s schedule continues on Saturday, June 14, as the Cayo Western Ballaz host the league-leading San Pedro Tiger Sharks at Sacred Heart College Auditorium in San Ignacio at 8:00 pm. Then, on Sunday, June 15, the Dream Ballers will face PG Panthers at Russell “Chiste” Garcia Auditorium in Dangriga at 8:00 p.m.
