By Zoila Palma: The Government of Belize has begun distributing nearly BZ$1.5 million in financial support to 549 small-holder farmers as part of the Sustainable and Inclusive Belize Program.
The initiative, a joint effort between the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, the Ministry of Finance, and the Inter–American Development Bank (IDB), aims to promote sustainable farming and boost climate resilience in the agricultural sector.
Each farmer, including 119 female agriculturalists, will receive an initial payment of BZ$2,000.
A second disbursement of the same amount will follow, contingent on the successful and verified use of the first.
The program is designed to help farmers adopt environmentally sustainable practices while increasing the global competitiveness of Belize’s agribusinesses.
