International News: Iran fires missiles at Israel in major escalation following Israeli strikes

By Zoila Palma: Iran launched a wave of ballistic missiles at Israel Friday night in retaliation for devastating Israeli strikes on its nuclear facilities and top military leadership, Reuters report.

Explosions were reported in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem as air raid sirens echoed across the country.

Iranian state media said hundreds of missiles targeted Israel in response to “Operation Rising Lion,” Israel’s largest-ever assault on Iran, which reportedly destroyed parts of the Natanz nuclear site and killed more than 20 senior military figures, including top commanders and nuclear scientists.

There were no immediate reports of casualties in Israel, while Iranian outlets claimed dozens of civilians were killed in Israeli strikes. Air defenses were activated across Iran, and explosions were heard in multiple cities, including Tehran, Isfahan, and Qom.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the campaign would continue until the threat from Iran was eliminated, calling it a fight for the nation’s survival.

U.S. President Donald Trump urged Tehran to stop its retaliation and return to nuclear talks, saying it was “not too late” for a deal. Talks are still scheduled, though their status remains uncertain.

The UN Security Council is set to meet at Iran’s request, while global oil prices spiked amid fears of broader conflict in the region.
