Public Utilities Commission maintains electricity rates for another year

By Aaron Humes: The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has released its Final Decision on Belize Electricity Limited’s (BEL) Annual Review Proceedings (ARP) for the Annual Tariff Period (ATP) spanning July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026. Following a thorough review of BEL’s 2025 ARP submission, the PUC has denied any adjustments to previously regulated established values, mean electricity rates, tariffs, charges, and fees outlined in Schedule 1. This decision aims to maintain stable and affordable electricity rates for consumers.

Additionally, BEL is required to submit a comprehensive filing including details on a proposed wholesale generation subsidiary, Synergy Power Belize Limited, and the proposed rates to be charged by June 30, 2025. BEL must also submit a comprehensive filing, complete with relevant data and analysis, to support its proposed new Cost Reflective Tariff Structure. This will enable the PUC to assess the viability and potential impact of the new tariff structure on consumers and the electricity sector as a whole.
