By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup kicks off Saturday night at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, with the opening match between Mexico and the Dominican Republic. This marks the 18th edition of Concacaf’s premier national team tournament, featuring 16 teams competing for regional supremacy.
Mexico, the defending champions, return to the same venue where they secured their record-extending ninth title in 2023 with a 1-0 victory over Panama. Their squad boasts a mix of seasoned veterans and rising stars, including Raul Jiménez, Santiago Giménez, and 16-year-old Gilberto Mora. Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic enters the tournament as debutants, fresh off their historic qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The tournament’s Group Stage will unfold over the next ten days, with teams divided into four groups:
Belize reached the Preliminary Round but was eliminated by Costa Rica with a 13-1 aggregate score. The Belize Men’s National Team has only participated in the Gold Cup once, in 2013, where they lost 6-1 to the United States, 1-0 to Costa Rica, and 4-0 to Cuba. Their lone goal in the tournament was a spectacular header by defender Ian Gaynair.
Saturday night’s match kicks off at 8:15 pm Belize time (7:15 pm EST), with fans able to watch on Fox Sports 1 and Univision or stream via Fubo. Other matches on Saturday include United States vs. Trinidad and Tobago at 4:00 pm, Haiti vs. Saudi Arabia at 6:15 pm, and Costa Rica vs. Suriname at 9:00 pm. On Monday, Panama will take on Guadeloupe at 5:00 pm, followed by Jamaica vs. Guatemala at 8:00 pm.
The tournament will continue through July 6, culminating with the final at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
