By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Concacaf Gold Cup continued with two intense matchups at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California on Monday with Panama and Guatemala resulting victorious.

Panama put on a dominant display against Guadeloupe, securing a 5-2 victory. The match started with Panama taking control early, as Cristian Martínez found the net in the 6th minute. Ismael Díaz then struck twice in quick succession, scoring in the 13th and 17th minutes to extend the lead. Eduardo Guerrero converted a penalty in the 22nd minute, putting Panama up by four goals before the half-hour mark. Guadeloupe managed to pull one back through Jordan Leborgne in the 29th minute, but Panama remained in control. In the second half, Guadeloupe attempted a comeback with Florian David converting a penalty in the 71st minute, reducing the deficit to two goals. However, Panama sealed the victory in stoppage time with a goal from Tomás Rodríguez in the 90’+2′ minute.

In the second match of the day, Guatemala pulled off a surprising 1-0 win over Jamaica. The game was tightly contested, with both teams battling for control in midfield. Guatemala found the breakthrough in the 32nd minute when Oscar Santis capitalized on a defensive lapse to score the only goal of the match. Jamaica pushed forward in search of an equalizer, but Guatemala’s defense held firm, securing a crucial victory.

This result comes just days after Jamaica defeated Guatemala 3-0 on July 10 at the National Stadium in Kingston in the Concacaf World Cup Qualifiers. Jamaica closed the second round of regional qualifiers with a perfect record atop Group E standings. At the Gold Cup, however, they’ll have an uphill struggle after Monday’s loss.
