International News: Iran-Israel conflict escalates as Trump demands “Real End” to nuclear threat

By Zoila Palma:  The Israel-Iran conflict entered its fifth day today, with both nations exchanging missile strikes amid rising regional and international tensions.

The conflict has killed hundreds and triggered mass evacuations, including over 600 foreign nationals fleeing Iran, the Guardian reports.

Overnight, Israel launched a new wave of strikes, hitting what it said were nuclear and ballistic missile sites in western Iran.

According to Israeli officials, dozens of surface-to-surface missile launchers were destroyed.

Meanwhile, Iran claimed responsibility for fresh missile and drone attacks on Tel Aviv, Haifa, and other cities, including what it described as a strike on Israel’s Mossad intelligence center.

The death toll continues to climb, with Iran reporting 224 dead and over 1,200 injured. In Israel, at least ten people were killed over the weekend, including two children in Bat Yam.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed harsh retaliation, saying Iran would “pay a very heavy price” for the attacks on civilians.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump, attending the G7 summit in Canada, reaffirmed his long-standing stance on Iran’s nuclear program.

“Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. It’s very simple,” Trump said, adding that he hoped the program would be “wiped out long before” U.S. involvement became necessary.

Trump, who has repeated this message multiple times in recent weeks, emphasized, “You can’t have peace if Iran has a nuclear weapon,” and hinted at possibly sending U.S. envoys to negotiate, depending on developments upon his return from Canada.

A White House statement released Tuesday reiterated that “President Trump has never wavered in his stance,” listing many recent instances where he warned Iran against pursuing nuclear weapons.

“I want them to succeed. I want them to end up being a great country, frankly, but they can’t have a nuclear weapon,” Trump has reiterated numerous times.
