By Zoila Palma: The U.S. is deploying additional fighter jets, including F-16s, F-22s, and F-35s, to the Middle East as the conflict between Israel and Iran intensifies, Reuters report.
The move, described as defensive, aims to protect U.S. forces and allies in the region from potential Iranian retaliation.
The U.S. is also extending deployments of other warplanes and considering sending more Navy ships with missile defense capabilities to the Eastern Mediterranean.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the build-up is intended to safeguard U.S. assets amid fears of wider regional escalation.
The U.S. already has around 40,000 troops in the region, backed by advanced air defense systems and naval forces.
