By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Despite sitting out of the Clash of the North Champions of Champions tournament, Orange Walk 1st Division Champions Yo Creek United proved they are still a force to be reckoned with, defeating Corozal 1st Division Champions Sarteneja FC 4-3 in a thrilling one-game Champions of Champions Cup on Sunday at the Florencio Marin Stadium in Sarteneja.
The match was electric from the start, with both teams displaying quality football in front of an eager crowd. Sarteneja, Corozal’s champions, sought to defend their home turf, but Yo Creek United, the Orange Walk Football Association (OWFA) champions, delivered a decisive performance, despite previous frustrations over the suspension of three key players.
This match wasn’t part of the larger Clash of the North tournament, which saw Sarteneja compete against Corozal FA subchampions Calcutta Bulls, while OWFA subchampions San Jose Pumas claimed the championship over Progresso FC in the final. However, Yo Creek United’s decision to decline participation didn’t stop them from asserting their dominance in Sunday’s Champions of Champions match.
The day’s events also featured a U-17 exhibition match between Sarteneja FC and College Road G-Strikers, celebrating football and Father’s Day with exciting competition. The senior clash between Sarteneja FC (opening season champions) and Yo Creek United (opening and closing season champions) was the highlight, proving the northern region’s depth of talent.
With this victory, Yo Creek United sends a strong message—despite controversies, they remain one of the top football teams in the north. Fans and players now look ahead to the National Amateur Interdistrict Championship (NAIC) in which both Yo Creek United and Sarteneja will be competing.
