By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Friday’s Group C action brought clarity to the standings as Panama secured their place in the quarterfinals with a second straight win, while Jamaica came from behind to defeat Guadeloupe and keep their hopes alive heading into the final matchday.
Panama 1–0 Guatemala
📍 Q2 Stadium, Austin, Texas
Panama made it two wins from two with a narrow but deserved 1–0 victory over Guatemala. Tomás Rodríguez scored the game’s only goal in the 19th minute, finishing from close range after a well-placed assist from Amir Murillo. Guatemala pushed for an equalizer, with Óscar Santis forcing a save in the 28th minute, but Orlando Mosquera stood firm in goal. Panama created further chances through Carlos Martínez and Murillo but were denied by Guatemala goalkeeper Nicholas Hagen.
Jamaica 2–1 Guadeloupe
📍 PayPal Park, San Jose, California
Guadeloupe struck first in the 32nd minute when Thierry Ambrose finished off a corner routine with a right-footed shot, assisted by Noah Cadiou. Jamaica responded before halftime: Leon Bailey equalized in the 41st minute with a left-footed shot from the center of the box after a low cross from Warner Brown. Then, deep into first-half stoppage time, Jon Russell gave the Reggae Boyz the lead with a well-placed header in the 45’+4’. The result gives Jamaica their first three points of the campaign
