FIFA Club World Cup – Friday Recap: Flamengo and Bayern impress, Benfica run riot

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Friday’s Club World Cup action saw statement wins from Flamengo and Bayern Munich, while Benfica overwhelmed Auckland City with six goals. Chelsea suffered a blow in Philadelphia, and LAFC were left stunned at home, falling to Espérance de Tunis.

Benfica 6–0 Auckland City
📍 Inter&Co Stadium, Orlando, Florida
Ángel Di María scored twice (45’+1, 90’+2 pen), while Vangelis Pavlidis (53’), Renato Sanches (63’), and Leandro Barreiro (76’, 78’) added to the rout in a dominant display by the Portuguese side.

Flamengo 3–1 Chelsea
📍 Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Chelsea led through Pedro Neto (13’), but Flamengo stormed back in the second half. Bruno Henrique equalized in the 62nd, Danilo gave them the lead in the 65th, and Wallace Yan sealed the win in the 83rd.

Espérance de Tunis 1–0 LAFC
📍 GEODIS Park, Nashville, Tennessee
Youcef Belaïli scored the winner in the 70th minute, and Bechir Ben Said saved a stoppage-time penalty from Denis Bouanga to hand LAFC their second straight loss.

Bayern Munich 2–1 Boca Juniors
📍 Hard Rock Stadium, Miami, Florida
Harry Kane opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Miguel Merentiel equalized for Boca in the 66th, but Michael Olise restored Bayern’s lead in the 84th to keep the German side perfect in Group C.
