Ladyville Highlights issues apology after interview with convicted killer Patrick Rhys

By Breaking Belize News Staff: The administrators of the Ladyville Highlights social media platform have issued a public apology following backlash over an interview aired with deportee Patrick Rhys—who failed to fully disclose his criminal history during a recent feature.

Rhys, 60, returned to Belize after serving 23 years in a U.S. prison for the brutal killing of his girlfriend, 49-year-old Gloria Tongue, on New Year’s Day 2010. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder after stabbing Tongue 27 times during a domestic dispute while their 8-year-old daughter was asleep in a nearby room.

Rhys has since appeared in media interviews seeking public assistance to rebuild his life. In one such appearance with Ladyville Highlights, he spoke of poverty, homelessness, and needing clothes and shelter but made no mention of his violent past. The omission led to outrage after U.S. court records resurfaced.

In a statement posted online, Ladyville Highlights admitted they were unaware of the seriousness of Rhys’ past. “He did mention he had a scuffle with his wife. He didn’t mention the seriousness of the incident,” they stated. The platform apologized for the oversight and vowed to conduct background checks going forward.
