Philanthropist Amirna Hopun organizes ‘Back-To-School Drive’ in Dangriga

By Giselle O’Brien: Philanthropist Amirna Hopun is once again organizing her annual back-to-school drive for her community in Dangriga. Amirna’s Southern Back-to-School Drive has been in rotation since 2017, providing backpacks and school supplies to over 300 children in the area.

Amirna shares that low income families in her community tend to have a difficult time preparing their children for the upcoming school year. With the recent rise of tariffs on Belizean imports, she anticipates that it will be especially difficult in the coming months for those families to keep up with education expenses. It is her hope that through the work and donations of those more fortunate, the drive can help to relieve some of that burden.

Requested donations include notebooks, pens, pencils, stationery, backpacks, folders and more. Amira’s Southern Back-to-School Drive is accepting donations from now until August 10th, 2025. Supplies will be distributed to students from Dangriga and nearby communities on August 23rd, 2025.
