By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Football royalty touched down in Belize this week as Sergio Ramos, one of the most decorated defenders in the history of the sport, was spotted arriving in the country on Thursday following his participation in the FIFA Club World Cup with Mexican club CF Monterrey.
Ramos, 39, who joined Monterrey (popularly known as Rayados) earlier this year, played a key role in their Club World Cup campaign reaching the Round of 16 during which they were eliminated by Borussia Dortmund. His visit to Belize has sparked excitement among local fans, many of whom grew up watching the Spanish icon dominate the world stage with Real Madrid and Spain.
A Career Like No Other
Sergio Ramos’ football résumé is the stuff of legends:
After concluding his second stint with Sevilla FC at the end of the 2024–25 season, Ramos rested a while before joining Monterrey on a one-year-deal in early 2025. He became the club’s highest-paid player and a marquee figure for their international campaign.
Belize stop sparks buzz
While the purpose of Ramos’ visit to Belize remains private, his presence has already created a stir on social media and among local football circles. Fans are hopeful for a glimpse—or even a chance encounter—with the global superstar.
His visit comes just days after Monterrey’s FIFA Club World Cup campaign, following his recent contract extension through December 2026.
