Friends for Conservation and Development says Western Hardwoods inside Mountain Pine Ridge crucial to watershed

By Zoila Palma:  Executive Director of Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD) Rafael Manzanero has indicated that Western Hardwoods inside Mountain Pine Ridge is crucial to Belize’s watershed.

During an interview with 7News Belize, Manzanero said that the area is broadleaf forests and serves as umbrella.

“If you notice on the letter of Itzamna Society, Saan Antonio which are really more key communities, that depend also directly from the water of the mountain Pine Ridge,” Manzanero said.

“Surely, Miss Garcia and her team, and the community members of San Antonio, they are the more direct beneficiaries or the ones who will suffer any of in terms of these effects are directly in that, you know, in, you know, in terms of that system there,” Manzanero added.

In addition, Manzanero said that he hopes the technical advice provided by the Forest Department would be taken solidly.
