By Aaron Humes: Two men have been charged with the murder of 21-year-old Travis Darnell Swift, but one of them escaped police custody shortly after his arrest.
Michael Middleton, 28, a construction worker, and Kyle Roberts, 23, a truck driver, both residents of Roaring Creek Village, were formally charged with murder on Friday by local authorities following Swift’s murder on June 13, where Smith was found with multiple gunshot wounds inside his family home in Camalote.
Assistant Superintendent Stacy Smith described Middleton as medium-built, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, and has a brown complexion. Police are currently on heightened alert and working diligently to locate and apprehend him.
ASP Smith further reminded the public of the legal implications of harboring a fugitive: “The Department anticipates that it will be able to apprehend Middleton in due course but it takes the opportunity to remind the general public that it is an offence to knowingly harbour, conceal or assist in the harbouring or concealing of a wanted person and that offence is punishable with up to 5 years’ imprisonment.”
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding Middleton’s escape is underway.
