United States marks 249th Independence Anniversary with reflections on Freedom, History, and Unity

By Zoila Palma:  As Americans across the nation celebrated Independence Day with fireworks, parades, and patriotic pride, President Donald Trump issued a solemn and stirring message commemorating the 249th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence—a document he called “a revolution in moral and political thought.”

In the official presidential message released on July 4, the President reflected on the historic moment in 1776 when 56 delegates gathered at Independence Hall in Philadelphia to sign a declaration that would change the course of history.

“On July 4, 1776, the cause of American liberty was enshrined in ink,” the President stated. “They enshrined a divine truth that changed the world forever when they declared, ‘all men are created equal.’”

The message emphasized not only the bravery of the signers but also the enduring power of the ideals they put to paper—life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

“These words,” the President said, “give life to our Republic, stir the hearts of every citizen, and animate our way of life.”

In recounting the story of Thomas Jefferson’s 17-day drafting process and the days of deliberation that followed, the President highlighted the profound weight of that decision. “Though the consequences of their actions were far from certain, the Second Continental Congress pressed forward with fierce determination, clarity of purpose, and an unshakable faith in God’s divine providence,” he said.

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026, President Trump called on Americans to reflect not only on their history but also on their future.

“My Administration continues to work tirelessly to revive our sovereignty, restore our strength, and reclaim the sacred ideals articulated in the Declaration of Independence,” he declared. “Today, we summon the courage of every legend of liberty who bravely signed his name… and we invoke the spirit of 1776 to propel our Nation into a new era of restoration, renewal, confidence, and strength.”

The message concluded with a call for unity and a reaffirmation of the nation’s founding values, as celebrations unfolded across the country in towns large and small.
