By Delroy Cuthkelvin: Although the UDP won no seats in the South in 2012 and only one seat there in 2015, that part of the Country continues to enjoy its fair share of investment in National Development under the good stewardship of Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow. First it was the Placencia and Hopkins Access Roads which are both vital to the Tourism Industry. Now it is the San Juan/Cowpen Access Road which is essential to the Banana Industry struggling to recover from natural disaster and external shocks.

This is, of course, in addition to the replacement and upgrading of vital bridges at Kendall, Mullins River and Middlesex. Then there is the paving of the Southern Highway Extension from the Dump to Jalacte on the Western Border. Even as we upload this post, the Hummingbird Highway and Stann Creek Valley Road are being rehabilitated and resurfaced. And, as the Prime Minister announced on Independence Day, funding has now been secured to upgrade the valuable Coastal Road to fully-paved, all-weather highway standard, an investment that will be complemented by the construction of a full Port at Commerce Bight.

Don’t forget also the heavy investment in Sports Infrastructure with the upgrading of the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga and the Toledo Union Field in Punta Gorda, both of which were recently completed. And, of course, there is the paving and cementing of major streets in both municipalities, such as Ecumenical Drive and Stanley Drive, St. Vincent Street, Thomas Vincent Ramos Road and Gadsby Ramos Road in Dangriga, as well as the replacement and upgrading of Havana Bridge.

These are only a few of the recent major infrastructure projects in the South which, like the rest of the Country, is being physically transformed under this UDP Government. The slogan has been around for quite some time, but this Dean Barrow Administration is still indeed, A GOVERNMENT FOR ALL.
